Ok, so I was going to hold out. I really like this riff, but it's darn hard to play on acoustic, especially with a headphone-cord tying you to the multi-tracker. I wanted drums to help me keep time, but the available loops weren't syncing. (I guess I could use a factory loop but that just doesn't sit right.) I also have a vocal melody in mind and some lyrics, but I feel the song calls for understatement, so I'm trying to come up with neutral lyrics that aren't so generic that they're stupid. The intro is pretty generic except for the sudden and strange idea to add tremolo picking. (Yes, my right arm is somewhat healed.) It seemed like a good intro to the main riff. The overall tempo is a bit slower than I normally play it on electric, but I thought slower and mellower would fit the vocal melody better. If I were to play this on stage, I would electrify and crank up, as The Who used to do with their early radio hits. The end is just for fun; I had a little left in the tank. I never was any good at holding out, so here ya go.

This is an alternate version of a demo I already posted. It has the same fingering, but the guitar is tuned to open D. I like both versions. This one is brighter and more optimistic, the other is softer and more dissonant. I fubar-ed the last bit but was out of time. You might not notice anyway.

First off, this gets louder, so you might want to start with a low volume. Sorry.
The drum track is about four years old. It rides the border between clever and annoying. I'd like to mellow it out and give it a less hollow sound. Unfortunately, that drum machine will only play old loops; it won't make any new ones or allow me to alter what's on it. My newer drum machine is still a mystery to me.
I've been trying to marry a particular piece of guitar music to it for about six months, except the intro which is from today. The guitar parts sound better on their own, but I can't help but feel like they should go together. It also sounds better in standard tuning, but I tuned down a whole step to the bass on the drum track. I tried a slower tempo, threw it out, then added the intro lead to the slow tempo (which I can tell has a lot of potential for expansion). Doubling the guitar made it sloppy, then I ran out of time. There are lyrics, almost spoken word, that I have to go over all of this. But it's taking a lot of sorting out. I'd rather have Lou Reed for the vocal. That would help. I made a better version three months ago; I'm actually getting worse.

I've had the basic structure of this for a couple of years. I hadn't practiced it in a while, but it's pretty easy to remember. I've never been able to get the lyrics quite right. But what the hey, it's a demo, right?
  • Still trying to sing...trying is the operative word

I hope I don't get sued by Pink Floyd. That's all I have to say. That, and that this is me playing and singing at the same time, on two different tracks. It took me YEARS to be able to utter word one while playing.

Not happy with the recording. Had this for years. Apparently that's how long it takes to like it, judging from reactions.
  • drum beats

Old beats from my drum machine. I tried combining, with mixed success. No pun there. I've heard these tracks so many times I'm sorta deaf to em. Not sure how it came out.
