Amber and Honey are enjoying their treat--a few handfuls of Timothy hay. All of my gerbils love the stuff, and despite the fact that both my fiancee and I are allergic it's a fairly common sight at the apartment.
Timothy hay serves three purposes. a) it gives the gerbs something to chew on, which is good for their teeth; b) it adds good fiber to their diet; and c) it entertains them for a while.
Well, I suppose there is a fourth purpose: it's fun to watch them frolic in it. :)
Amber and Citrine were having a blast...but inevitably the hay either gets eaten or shredded into their bedding. It's a fleeting pleasure, I suppose, but very worth the effort.
