Sun... Sand... Surf...

The time has come my friends. You must all mourn my loss as I am going to the Island of Hawaii for 9 days. I'm sure this will a time of trial and tribulation for you all and you will barely be able to overcome your grief.

As for me... I will be spending my days on the beach, drinking fruity drinks with umbrellas in them. I will have no need for clothing as I will be living in my swimsuit soaking up the gorgeous rays of sun. By the time I come back, I will be so tan that everyone will think that I am from Latin America, except for the fact that I have blue eyes, tan lines and recently dyed my hair dark red.

So, should you wish me to bring you back something from my tropical paradise (i.e. postcard, pukah shell necklace, coconut bra...), leave a comment or send an e-mail and I'll send some love.

Now friends, don't cry for me. I will think of you all fondly in between swimming, lounging and surf lessons. I will picture your lovely faces and think: "Man, it sucks to be you right now!"

Aloha!

The Tahoe Itch... It's Here.

It's been coming on gradually, and I've tried to put it at the back of my mind, but it cannot be repressed. Every spring, like clockwork, it comes: that desire to swim, wakeboard, waterski, ride the good ship Lahl-E-Pop, and lay on the pier. I want to feel the sun on my skin, I want to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the waves gently crashing against the sand. I want to stay in my swimsuit all day long, I want to smell of sunscreen. I want to set up the net and play beach volleyball for hours with my cousins, I want to sip iced tea while reclining on a chaise lounge.

I want the sun... I need the sun...

So the question is: do YOU have the itch?

Done....... aaahhh.

I had my last final today, praise be to the LORD God Almighty! I finished just in time to come down with a sore throat. Typical. I'm positive that I got an A in economics and music. I earned an A in math throughout the semester, but my teacher grades on a curve so I'm not sure how that will work out for me. I'm praying for the best... which is an A.

Here is what I have to look forward to in the upcomming semester:

Calculus- which I've been told is easier than pre-calc. Yeah... we'll see about that.

German- it really is a beautiful language when not it's not being yelled by a Nazi in a WWII movie.

Business-see if it sparks my interest.

Cross country track- I figured, I'm running so much anyway, I might as well get units for it.

Not having to work as many hours- AE has been flipping crazy since Thanksgiving, but will die down in January.

Completing my last year of Certificate of Merit- lets hope that I make honors recital again.

Anybody else read The Constant Princess? It's about Catherine of Aragon, daughter of Isabel of Castille and Ferdinand of Aragon, and first wife of Henry VIII. I read one of the authors books on Anne Boleyn, and another on Elizabeth I. Yeah, Henry VIII is sort of a fetish of mine.

The Controversy of Proposition 83

So as some of you guys may know, proposition 83 passed in the state of California. Prop. 83 basically states that habitual and violent sex offenders must register with the state, cannot live within .5 miles of schools or child inhabited parks, and can be tracked through gps.

So I, like the "tough and vengeful" girl I am, voted an enthusiastic "yes" on this proposition. The day after the election, I expressed my joy on this issue with a classmate. He, like the arrogant, male chauvinist pig he is, informed me that I didn't do enough research on the proposition. He said that I was suckered into voting for the prop because I didn't know that the new laws would apply to statutory rapists. I told him that he was mistaken; I knew that the law would apply to ALL sex offenders (yes, statutory rapists are sex offenders!).

Taken aback by my answer, he asked me if I truly believed that a 30 year old who has a relationship with a minor deserves to be punished for their actions. I answered with a "you bet I do!" My classmate went on to say that we are in a day and age when it's ok to have relationships with whoever you want, as long as you think that they are old enough. "I'm not going to make every girl whip out an ID. I'm not even going to ask how old she is. I don't deserve the same punishment as a rapist." Yeah, those were his words!

I think what my classmate fails to recognize, is that whether you force a girl or manipulate a girl, according to the LAW (and not just conservative opinions), the perpetrator is considered a rapist. All cases of rape must be punished, and now, through proposition 83, rape can be prevented. As an adult, you are responsible for you behavior around minors. "If anyone causes a young one to sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone around his neck."

Ironically, for a man who has such strong political views, my classmate did not even bother to vote this election.
