Black (Brown) is the Colour of My True Love's Hair
I heard a snippet of Nina Simone singing this on a documentary about Martin Luther King Jr. They played it over his funeral procession and I found it so moving I had to sing it. I changed the colour to match my love's hair. -
Love That Kills
The Bible tells us that God's love brings a new man into being and gets rid of the old one. Here's a song that puts that process, and the long for it to be complete, in wonderful words. Full credit goes to Mike Scott and the Waterboys who released this on their CD "The Secret Life of the Waterboys, '81-'85". It's the last song, and with organ, trumpets and piano, it's a killer all its own. -
Stand Beside Me
An incredibly powerful song by the Hothouse Flowers from their Album "Songs from the Rain". A cry from the heart to God for his guidance when something or all things seem lost. -
A Home in the Meadow
My take on a traditional song, A Home in the Meadow, Lyrics by Cahn/Newman, music: traditional. Recording on my Mac using Garageband -
Whole of the Moon
A brilliant song by Mike Scott and the Waterboys from their "Big Music" period in the mid 1980's. The original has piano, violin, 12 string guitar, trumpets, even a canon. Mine has just my voice. -
What Do You Want Me to Do?
Written and composed by Mike Scott, played and sang with haunting sincerity on his album "Bring 'Em All In" -
River Redux
Same longing at Christmas, without the need for a high register to create emotion, or the need to try to sound like Joni in my delivery. -
River
I was captivated by the sense of longing in this song the first time I heard it. -
Wait for Me
A reworked version of the original, with slightly different lyrics and a melody better suited to the instrumentation.
