so last night capped off another game where i invested myself into a team and its players and they fall short of a championship. WTF? looking back, it all started in 1992 with the Fab Five, and now, 16 years later, only 2 of the 12 teams I loved won it all... 1) 1992 NCAA Men’s Final Michigan Wolverines VS Duke Blue Devils 51-71 LOST 2) 1993 NCAA Men’s Final Michigan Wolverines VS UNC Tar heels 71-77 LOST 3) 1993 NBA Finals Phoenix Suns VS Chicago Bulls 2-4 LOST 4) 1998 Rose Bowl (NCAA Championship) Michigan Wolverines VS Washington State Cougars 21-15 WON 5) 2000 NBA Finals Indiana Pacers VS L.A. Lakers 2-4 LOST 6) 2001 NBA Finals Philadelphia 76ers VS L.A. Lakers 1-4 LOST 7) 2003 SUPERBOWL XXXVII Oakland Raiders VS Tampa Bay Buccaneers 21-48 LOST 8) 2003 NCAA Men’s Final Syracuse Orange VS Kansas Jayhawks 81-78 WON 9) 2005 SUPERBOWL XXXIX Philadelphia Eagles VS N.E. Patriots 21-24 LOST 10) 2006 BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP Michigan Wolverines VS OSU Buckeyes 39-42 LOST 11) 2008 SUPERBOWL XLII N.E. Patriots VS New York Giants 14-17 LOST 12) 2008 NCAA Men’s Final Memphis Tigers VS Kansas Jayhawks 68-75 LOST that list only has title games...doesn't mention the many losses in those heated rivalry games between Michigan and OSU...heartache, sleepless night, the mind over-analyzing every crucial play repeatedly...why put myself into this misery you ask? I dunno. I guess it's that competitor in me, that love for competitive sports, the heart of the players involved...and that chance for elation when they do win it all. i've lost two championship games in my life, in grade school and high school. it was the WORST feeling in the world so i guess i take the losses hard because i actually feel for these players...all that hard work, to come so close and to not have that dream come into fruition. it just blows. so last night's game was so eerily similar to 2003's NCAA Title Game between Syracuse and Kansas. Syracuse was lead by freshman Carmelo Anthony, the same way Memphis was lead by freshman Derrick Rose. Kansas fought back and was down 2 and had a chance to tie after Hakim Warrick missed two clutch free throws just like how CDR missed those key free throws. However, instead of hitting a big three to send the game into OT against Memphis, Kansas went for a three in the waning seconds to win the game, and out of no where, Warrick comes out and blocks the crap out of that kid, atoning for his misses and sealing the win for the Orange. Jim Boeheim won his first title and Melo got MOP. That should have happened for John Calipari and Derrick Rose last night... Okay, I know I have littered my Xanga with ridiculous sports stuff the last few months, however, football is over and basketball (NBA) is almost over, and I can go back to writing about regular stuff again. I have included some pics below from the last few months just to make it up for my incessant sports writing.
