Most everyone interested in handmade and crafting has heard of Etsy. This venue is now boasting over 200,000 shops to browse. The quality is starting to decrease, but there are still some top notch handmade gifts and amazing art to be found there. But Etsy has some competition this year for the handmade niche – Artfire.
There have always been other handmade and art venues – freecraftfair, lov.li, dawanda, mintd, and some shops on eCrater, blujay, bigcartel, and even eBay. But when it comes to format and ease of use, two new contenders have entered the ecommerce ring in 2008 – Artfire and Shophandmade. Of these, Artfire appears to have the potential to be the next, and better, Etsy.
When shopping online this holiday season don’t just visit Etsy for your handmade needs, check out Artfire as well. It’s still in beta, but many sellers are relocating there because of customer service disputes with Etsy corp. There is also a way to find your favorite seller if they have left the venue – the former Etsy sellers page. I expect to be busy adding to it from tips this holiday season.
This month's featured EtsyBlogger is Storybeader (as you see in the side bar!). I have to tell you, when I was still able to pull photos from the group flickr pool for the team Squidoo lens there was ALWAYS a storybeader pic to add in.

One thing you're sure to see in Storybeader's shop are...well..beads! Beaded keychains, beaded jewelry, and just plain beads. She has an assortment of colors and styles, there's something for everyone there.
What is truly unique though is that every necklace comes with a haiku written specifically for the piece. I'm tempted to pick up this lovely gem just to read its story.

We wanted to go out for a walk last week, before the winter weather moved in, but just down the road in Franconia Notch it was already snowing and we wandered into a winter wonderland. So we parked at the Basin and took a stroll. No footprints in front of us and only two pairs behind us. It was wonderful!
I was on the front page of ShopHandmade!! Both of my plaques are there, all I have currently listed due to my busy schedule...does anyone know how they choose them?! (by recent log in maybe? lol)
