GHOSTS

A very wise friend asked this question recently: "Can a 'ghost writer' be Spirit filled?"

That led me to think about the problems which Ms. Winfrey is facing as the ghost of a past interview has returned to haunt her. Are we watching a twenty-first century version of "The Phantom of the Oprah"?

THE CHURCH - A SET-UP FOR THE SUPERNATURAL

From Bill Hull's "The Disciple-Making Pastor."

"Ultimately individuals express maturity by the ability to work with those whom they would not choose as friends. The church is not for clones. God's genius has been to throw together a hodgepodge of called-out believers and require them to love one another and do the impossible together. The only way such an enterprise could work is through supernatural enablement."

w00t - IT'S OFFICIAL !!

Received this information just a few minutes ago...

"w00t" - did you know this was chosen as Merriam-Webster's 2007 word of the year?  It is spelled with two zeroes in the middle.  The word, derived from video game speech (say what?), is used as an exclamation of joy, often upon the completion of a task [...]

For a few days I wasn't sure if I was going to get into the Christmas "mood." Having had some of our Christmas day activities on Thanksgiving day with our assembled family, it seemed as though "the day" had come and gone. With all of our family going to be somewhere else on Christmas the season took on a kind of flat, black-and-white appearance. This made me very aware of how much has encroached on my "feel" for the "Reason for the season."

So, three things have helped to jump start my celebration of the arrival of the month of December.

First - a renewed focus on the fact that it is about Jesus Christ and not about our cultural trappings.

Second - having adjusted that focus, some of the familiar personal traditions began to take on renewed importance. Last night the Music Teacher and I discovered a DVD of the classic Alistair Sims interpretation of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." It is, I believe, a healthy reminder that God is about people. I watched this movie often on television as a child (it came out in 1951) and then renewed my acquaintance with it a few years back when we found it on video. Now this DVD brings a better quality to the old film and it is color enhanced. So, last night and watched the movie. A fire place crackled to one side. Together we sipped hot spiced cider. Good times.

Third - there is snow on the ground and in the air outside my office window. I have started playing my Christmas tapes as I work. I'm good for both until January 2nd. Then I will be ready for crocuses and Easter songs.

Just for the Record
the Following Obituary was
NOT
About ME
(Wrong Last Name...Wrong Age...Wrong Death Date)
Same good looks, though.

He was a very great man, though, and I'm not really embarrassed to be mistaken for him other than the fact that I'm still on this side of the granite door and he is now on the other side.
